If someone is trying to start a small business in this economy it is harder than it used to be. According to the banks, and credit unions the bad economy has limited the loans available for startup funds. And you have to provide a higher percentage of collateral for the loan. Even if you could qualify for a minority loan under normal circumstances it is more difficult now. How can you start your own business if you can’t gett the funds to get it off the ground?

I would like the company I work for to help a local charity, but as we are a new business, we don’t have a lot to spend.

Any ideas on how I can help this charity without my company spending a lot at the same time.

I teach yoga from time to time. I received Forms 1099-MISC and last year earned a total of $4400 in 3 different states. Because it is non-employee compensation do I have to file as a business? I do not have any inventory or expenses for this service and do not do it all of the time. Can I just claim it as Other Income and avoid all that business stuff?

My husband has recently started a new business as the above. He already has a decent customer base just through word of mouth although a bit more business would be great.
How can we get more customers/business without spending a fortune?
He has his van Sign written, we have business cards and have pushed advertising leaflets through doors so far.
Would a discount voucher of 10% off for customers who already use us be a good Idea? (Return custom)
Looking for inspiration please. Thanks for any input in advance!

I have recently shot my fiance’s brothers wedding and it was perfect. The job, the adrenaline, the pictures (and of course the wedding!). I want to do this more, to create a business from this experience. Where do I get started though? I have already asked family members to keep me mind if anyone asks about a wedding photographer, but what else do I do? I’m on a tight budget so I can’t create a website (yet anyway) though I do have a portfolio printed I can show. Any tips?

I want to start my own business. I am young (20), but I know that working for a company doesn’t make me very happy. I would love to start a small movie theater, as I have been a manager at a large theatre chain for a few years, but they take a lot of money to get going. I would like to start a business that involves customer service. I don’t want to sell a specific item, I just want to provide a service to people (resturant, bar, movie theatre), but don’t have the capitol, I don’t really have investors, and I have little credit.

How do you thank a magazine editor for including your business?

As a wedding related business owner, I’m wondering what other wedding vendors do to thank a magazine editor who includes their business in one of their magazines. A written thank you note doesn’t seem enough, but something bigger may appear like I’m kissing butt or trying too hard.

So, how would you thank a magazine editor for including your business within an issue?
