What is proper business etiquette for sending out follow up emails for unanswered emails?

I have a national meeting to go to in a couple of weeks, and it’s listed as “business attire” for the first night, and then the rest of the week is business casual. The specified that all of the men had to wear a jacket (sport coat?) There aren’t a whole lot of women in my career, so they didn’t specify anything, and I’m not really sure what is acceptable. I would really appreciate suggestions, web pages with pictures, and possibly a comparison between business attire and business casual. Thanks :)
