Maria,
The hardest part of any business is just getting customers. make up some flyer’s, get them to prospects. you can clean some houses, business on the weekends and build your business. As it grows, you can decide if you can leave your full time job or if you just need to hire some part time help on the weekend with you. Good luck
Hi, cleaning business is a great option to start with but before going full scale into it look at the state of the economy… if you can bring in more value to your customers through your services saving them some extra money and time. Then you are on the right track. Give a trial version of your service(free) and get feed back from your clients. Do not quit your job immediately. Run it on the weekends as a trial then go ahead with it.
You’ve gotten some good answers so far. You don’t say whether you are thinking about residential or commercial cleaning or if you are working 8-5, M-F, not that that matters.
I clean small offices and the economy hasn’t really effected me. I have a friend who is a school teacher and cleans a couple of bank branches in the evening. All my work is mostly after hours, too. So, beginning an office cleaning business while you still have your job is ideal. Start small, work at getting larger.
Yes, the most difficult task in the beginning for you will be getting those two or three customers. Fliers really won’t work, because you need to get in front of the decision maker and make your pitch of why your service will be superior to what they have now and benefit them. Actually, a lot of business owners (and homeowners) are unhappy with their cleaning service, they just don’t know how/where to find a different and better one.
I have a lot more on getting started and what you need on my squidoo lens and blog. Lots of tips and resources, too. The links are in My Profile.
Go for it and Good Luck!
